1. DDT - DDT is a cancer causing pesticide that is banned in the U.S. but is still used in India and China for controlling pests in tea crops. Many large tea farms spray their tea crops with DDT and those chemicals can leach into the very cup of tea you are drinking.

2. Endosulfan - Endosulfan is a pesticide that has been banned by the U.S., China, the EU, and 144 other countries because it has been linked to impaired fertility and could harm unborn babies. If that isn’t bad enough, this pesticide builds up over time, making it really bad for farmers and the environment.

3. Methomyl - Methomyl is a highly toxic pesticide that is not only harmful to humans but to the environment as there is a good chance it will seep into the farms water supply. In fact, there was a peer reviews study that determined that Japanese tea farmers were being poisoned by this pesticide just by working on the land.

4. Plastic - It was just recently discovered that teabags contain a dangerous chemical in the way they are sealed and treated. The chemical of choice for this treatment was Epichlorohydrin. According to Dow Chemical (who is the largest producer of this substance): Epichlorohydrin has been shown to cause cancer in laboratory animals. If you look at the European Statement from Dow Chemical: “The substance should be regarded as if it is carcinogenic to man. There is sufficient evidence to provide a strong presumption that human exposure to the substance may result in the development of cancer.”

5. Artificial Flavors & Natural Flavors - David Kessler, the former head of the Food and Drug Administration, has said these flavors create a “food carnival” in your mouth. Scientists from the major food flavoring industry claim that they not only replicate flavors but “improve on it.” They actually say that their “Holy Grail” is a “flavor so good you can’t resist it” and even go on to confirm that they are attempting to create an addiction. An “addictive taste” that you want to “go back for again and again.”
